Mississippi Kite & Others
Sunday, July 19, 2009 by Clint.
Yesterday Naomi and I drove out to Canajoharie (about 1hr from home) to see the Mississippi Kite that folks have been excitedly reporting for the past month. It is a rare bird in our area. We were fortunate enough to see it as soon as we reached the area where it had been spotted previously. It was around for about 5 minutes and then we never saw it again over the next 3 hours. There were many other wonderful birds around in this beautiful rural area and I managed to get a few photos.
Unfortunately, the Mississippi Kite remained very far away high in the sky so even with my telephoto lens it was just a small pinpoint. The 2 photos below of the Kite are highly cropped and the quality is way below my usual standards but Naomi insisted that I post them just to prove we saw it :-).

This morning while out walking I came across one of our lovely white-tailed deer. She watched me for a moment and then took flight - just gorgeous on the run and jumping high into the air.
